JIU JITSU

Vicente Junior De la Riva BJJ

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. The art was brought to Brazil by Mitsuyo Maeda (student of Kodokan Judo) in 1914. Its parent art of judo was separated from older systems of Japanese jujutsu by an important difference that was passed on to BJJ: it is not solely a martial art: it is also a sport; a method for promoting physical fitness and building character in young people; and, ultimately, a way (Do) of life.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique – most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as “rolling”) and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, in relation to progress and ascension through its ranking system.

Small Circle JuJitsu & JuTrap Boxing

Small Circle JuJitsu is a style of jujutsu developed by Wally Jay whom was close friends with Bruce Lee. Wally Jay primarily studied Danzan-ryū jujutsu under Seishiro Okazaki (also known as Henry S. Okazaki) and he was awarded a Certificate of Mastery from Okazaki. Previously he had studied boxing, judo and jujutsu. As Wally Jay gained knowledge and experience in the martial arts, he became focused on improving traditional techniques. Ultimately, it was during his two years of training under the Hawaiian Judo Champion, Ken Kawachi, which gave him the principles he needed to formulate his system of Small Circle JuJitsu.

Small Circle Ju Trap Boxing is a street-smart mixed martial art of self-defense. Small Circle Ju Trap Boxing components include Small Circle Jujitsu, Boxing, Jeet Kune Do, and Serrada Escrima. Small Circle Ju Trap Boxing was developed by Professor James Hundon as a synthesis of his extensive experience in the martial arts, the security industry, and training law enforcement professionals. Professor James Hundon started training with Wally Jay when he was in his early 20’s and was his private student for over 30 years.
